Office of Patent and Trademark E.U. (USPTO) granted Apple a patent for a technology that could disable phone wifi cameras at public events by monitoring and interpretation of infrared signals.

The patent explains that an infrared emitter can be located in areas where taking pictures or video is prohibited, the issuer would be used to disable the recording function on mobile devices.

As reported by the specialized site 9to5Mac, the patent could also have some positive uses. In a museum, for example, the system could automatically display information about a work of art.

It is likely that the tech giant does not develop by the time the camera blocker, but rather to obtain the patent is a way to prevent others develop it.
