Traveling wildlife enthusiasts love field guides, so I thought I'd see what field guides are favorites for particular parts of the world. I know, for me, when I'm planning a new trip I am always seeking the best field guides to carry.

Travellers Wildlife Guides
This series is available for a variety of wildlife destinations around the world. I think they are good for a general naturalist, but not so good for a serious "ticker." Basically, they include the species you are most likely to encounter, including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. As such, they leave out more rare species. In bird-rich areas, you will see species that you can't find. I wish they would shorten the life history section and include more species. They are pretty big books so can add a bit of weight to the pack.
