According to the British "Daily Mail" reported, scientists are building the ultimate burning laser weapons response to an asteroid impact , DE-STAR, namely the "target asteroid and exploration of directed energy systems" (directed energy system for targeting of asteroids and exploRation). The system will use the laser beam to intercept and change the asteroid's flight path. Laser interception of the concept of the asteroid has been proposed for many years, and recently a paper pointed out that this is to prevent the near earth objects (NEOs) threat to the earth's feasible program.

The researchers used a 5000mw Laser to heat the basalt to the white hot state. This process will change the quality of the object, and produce a similar rocket thruster effect, the use of the asteroid itself as a driving force. In space, the energy produced by this process is sufficient to change the course of the asteroid's movement.

Just last year, the researchers simulated the effect of the system in the laboratory, albeit at a smaller scale. They use Xuan Wuyan (known as the asteroid component similar) as the target of 200mw Green Laser bombardment, so that it is heated to a white hot state. This process will change the quality of the object, and produce a similar rocket thruster effect, the use of the asteroid itself as a driving force. In space, the energy produced by this process is sufficient to change the course of the asteroid's movement.

Xuan Wuyan's composition is similar to that of a known asteroid. The researchers used a Laser Sight to spin the basalt, and then the laser was fixed in the opposite direction of rotation to slow down the rate of rotation. The basalt is placed on a torsion balance to keep it stable when it is bombarded by a laser.

The research team also tested a photon recycling device that can be used to recycle photons by reflection of the laser.
