Suspect arrested in Red Bluff for attempted murder in Yreka

RED BLUFF, Calif. -Update 6:30 p.m.: As officers from Yreka Police Department and Oregon authorities finished up interviewing suspects and victims, in this case, it is evident that one of the suspects is a victim. The Yreka Police Department is processing the paperwork to release Aundrea Elizabeth Maes, 19, from the Tehama Co. Jail at this time. Also, the victim in this case condition has changed to critical but stable.

wo suspects were arrested in Red Bluff Tuesday after officials said they shot an elderly man in Yreka.

According to the Yreka Police Department, they received a phone call at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday advising them of a shooting victim at the Super 8 Motel, located at 136 Montague Road in Yreka.

Police responded to the area and found the elderly male victim who had been shot in the stomach. Emergency personnel transported the victim to Fairchild Medical Center.

Around 5:05 a.m., police received a phone call from a male who was at the Mobil Gas Station, located at 735 N. Main Street. The man reported his car was taken and three of his family members were still in the car.

Police said a young man in the vehicle was held at gunpoint and forced to drive the stolen vehicle for the suspects.

Officers from the Yreka Police Department, Yreka California Highway Patrol, and the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office searched the area for the suspects.

Around 5:41 a.m., a 911 call was received from the three victims who were in the car. The victims said they were dropped off on I-5 north of the Weed rest area and were unharmed.

Yreka CHP responded to the area and took the victims to the Yreka Police Department.

Around 6:18 a.m., the Yreka Police Department received information about a cell phone being pinged with a possible location of the suspects on I-5 north of Redding.

After receiving the information about the suspects, a Red Bluff CHP officer spotted the stolen vehicle on southbound I-5 near Flores Road. The vehicle was traveling faster than the posted speed limit.

The CHP officer attempted to the stop the vehicle but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated. CHP said the chase reached speeds of about 100 mph for about 10 miles.

Corning police officers joined in the pursuit for the last few miles before the driver voluntarily stopped on the right shoulder.

Around 7:01 a.m., the Red Bluff California Highway Patrol advised they had the two suspects in custody and the victim's vehicle.

The two suspects, identified as Edwin Enoc Lara, 31, from Bend, Oregon and Aundrea Elizabeth Maes, 19, from Salem, Oregon, were booked into the Tehama County Jail on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, carjacking, burglary, and other charges.

Police said the gunshot victim has since been transferred to Rouge Valley Hospital and is in unstable and critical condition. The identity of the man is not being released at this time.

According to KTVZ NewsChannel 21, Lara is also wanted for the disappearance and apparent killing of a Bend woman, Kaylee Sawyer, 23, who was last seen early Sunday near her apartment close to the Bend campus.

Bend police Lt. Clint Burleigh told KTVZ NewsChannel 21 Monday night, "Information gathered by investigators during the day has changed the type of investigation from a missing person to a homicide investigation".
