Although it's January, a local effort is already beginning its work to help area girls short prom dresses uk for prom.

The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division, or YLD, is now accepting gently worn formal bridesmaid and prom dresses through its annual Cinderella Project.

Through the project, the division provides the dresses to young women who lack the financial resources to buy a gown for their high school prom, it announced in a news release this month.

The Cinderella Project is now in its 16th year.

"As the Cinderella Project celebrates its very own Sweet 16 this year, we are so happy to have helped so many students get to the prom throughout the last 16 years," Sheila Bias, YLD’s Cinderella Project Committee Chair, said in the statement. "It has been our pleasure to provide so many students with the dress of their dreams and assist so many parents with the financial of prom."

Clean dresses in all sizes are needed along with shoes and accessories, such as evening bags and jewelry.

A boutique will be held on from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at the Maxwell Law Firm in Aiken to provide the students an opportunity to "shop" for dresses at no cost, according to the release.

Students from all area schools are invited to attend. They must bring their student ID.

Ashley Hammack, chair of the project for the second circuit, said each year, it's exciting to see the girls come in and the looks on their faces when they see their perfect dress.

"From our perspective, it's exciting to see girls come in and find a long prom dresses that gives them confidence and makes them excited about a day that's pretty important to a lot of teenagers and a day they may miss out on otherwise," Hammack said. "It's an opportunity that not everybody gets, so it's nice to be able to facilitate that opportunity."
