On April 27, 2013, Derry broke the record for the biggest number of brides in the one place at the same time.

Hundreds of women, and the odd man, pulled on wedding prom dresses for the special occasion which also raised thousands of pounds for local charity Foyle Hospice.

They gathered in Guildhall Square before making their way across the Peace Bridge to Ebrington Square.

A total of 748 people took part in the event. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were on hand to confirm that the city had broken the record!

However, the record has now been broken after 843 brides, less than 100 more, recently gathered in the Guangdong province of China.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Now ‘We want our record back!!!’ Not only do we intend to break it, we hope to smash it!!

"We are asking the City & North West to get behind us again by participating at the event on Saturday 29th April.

"Starting at 2.30pm, Brides will gather Guildhall Square and make their way across the iconic peace bridge and ‘Get our record back’."

Noel McMonagle, Community Fundraising Manager at Foyle Hospice said they were looking forward to hosting the event again.

“We never thought our record would be broken so soon and we are determined to regain that accolade for the people of the North West who helped us set the record in the first place. Our event in 2013 was a great spectacle and we hope to recreate the wonderful atmosphere of that day again on Saturday 29th April 2017. Events like these are a great way of bringing the community together to not only have a fun day out but also to help raise awareness of the work of Foyle Hospice and of course much needed funds.”
