Weddings have a tendency to reveal people’s true colors and often the resulting palette isn’t pretty. Refinery 29shared a Reditt story that I’d argue makes one bride the lowest of the low for kicking two bridesmaids out of her wedding party over their dark skin.

The bride told her friends (a term I type loosely) they couldn’t be in the wedding because there weren’t enough groomsmen, but later one bridesmaid found out the real truth.

“A month after the wedding, one of the bridesmaids was venting to me about how the bride still hadn’t paid for the catering that her boyfriend did and how angry she was about it. During this conversation, she casually lets it slip that the real reason we were removed from the wedding was because I (South Asian) and my friend (Black) had dark skin, and she preferred how the prom dress looked on pale skin. I still haven’t told the other removed bridesmaid about this revelation.”

Girl, what are you waiting on?

The redditor notes she and the bride, who was a bridesmaid in her wedding, have been friends for 12 years, which makes it surprising that the bride’s colorism issues hadn’t come up before. Perhaps the friend just overlooked them, considering she asked in her post whether the reason she and the Black bridesmaid were kicked out of the wedding is a big deal. Uh, hell yeah! Not only should this woman tell the Black girl what kind of person the bride really is, she should also confront the bride herself. When color trumps 12 year’s of friendship, you have to ask what kind of friends you really are.
